Overview

Solaris Oilfield Infrastructure delivers power and logistics across major US shale plays, supporting drilling, completion, and production sites. After acquiring Railtronix, the team needed a unified platform to monitor sand inventory and wellsite performance.

Previous Situation

Silo levels were checked manually or reported by phone, data lived in separate tools, and trucks arrived without clarity on which silo needed a refill. The result was downtime, idle trailers, and reactive ordering.

The Challenge

Fracking depends on continuous sand supply and accurate blend tracking. Solaris needed a rugged mobile app for field crews and a web command center for dispatch and operations that could function with low connectivity, dust, and extreme weather.

Our Approach

We ran Phase I Knowledge discovery with on-site research in Texas, interviewing managers, dispatchers, engineers, and technicians. We mapped data flows, prioritized critical alerts, and designed offline-first interactions with high contrast and large touch targets.

Field Reality

Engineers work in heat above 45 C and winter cold near -10 C, wearing PPE and thick gloves. Previous systems forced teams to tap with tools instead of fingers. We focused on large buttons, simple navigation, and clear status feedback that stays readable under bright sun.

What Had to Be Visible

The most valuable signals were live silo levels, sand blend codes, load assignment, and ETA. We built color-coded blends, threshold alerts, and timeline history so dispatch and field crews could coordinate with fewer calls.

We delivered Solaris Lens for wellsite crews and a Vision web console for dispatch and leadership, connecting sensor data to real-time monitoring and logistics decisions in one shared system.
